I really enjoyed Obsessed! We follow Allison's journey from her beginnings as a normal teenager (worrying about homework and prom) to a sudden onset and all-encompassing fear that everything causes cancer. Often OCD is associated with germaphobia or lists/obsessive order and this book helped me understand the breadth of manners OCD can take over someone's life, not only those as typically stereotyped. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about OCD or just generally feel inspired!
I almost read this book in one stretch as I found it that mesmerizing. This young woman has gone through hell and back. She has given us such a gift of insight into this condition. I thought it was just about compulsions and no idea that it is more about the perceived repercussions of the thoughts. Well sone Allison for being so incredibly brave to expose your story. You are a true hero
This was a well written and informative book. I had no knowledge of this frightening illness and was surprised at the depth of the horrors Allison went through. Allison's mother is a longtime friend and I could picture her walking through this journey.
This is a gut wrenching, inspiring and insightful read. I just couldn't stop reading. Profound respect to the author for such a comprehensive, graphic description of her journey and ultimately how she overcame these challenges. WOW!!
I picked up this book to get a taste of life with OCD and I got it. A little more recovery and a little less relentless description of all the Triggers that took over the author’s life would have made for a better story. However, it may not have stayed with me like this story is sure to do. It was an eye opener for someone who thought OCD was only about hand washing and Obsessive turning off lights and appliances.
I was drawn in from the beginning. Her writing allows you to experience what she experienced. I'm so thankful she had the nerve to write her incredible story to help others know that they aren't alone.
A frank, open and candid memoir of OCD. Very helpful to promote conversations on mental health with teenagers, parents and co-workers.
Moving and thought-provoking memoir that reads wonderfully like a novel. Even though this is a "teen" book, I would recommend it to teens and adults alike.
