Quite good as an overview, but I found some serious errors. For example, the author says, on page 149, "Don't bother notifying your mortgage holder or your insurance company that you have placed your home in a living trust."Huh?The deed has to be transferred from your name to the trustee's name (which might still be you, "Jane Doe, Trustee for the Jane Doe Living Trust," instead of just "Jane Doe.")The problem is that the law considers Jane Doe the individual and Jane Doe trustee, to be different entities. Which means the mortgage company will learn that the property has changed hands, and theoretically could cause you more trouble than if you'd just done it the right way to begin with. Also, Jane Doe, Trustee, the new owner, won't necessarily be insured by your insurance policy if your insurer isn't informed of the change in deed.That makes this poor advice.As I'm not an attorney, I can't judge other advice in the book beyond the bits I know from experience. It seems to be a good overview to help you begin thinking/planning about how you might like to handle your estate, and what might be involved. By all means, though, don't rely entirely on the advice you read here. It might end up costing you.

This is the 4rth book I have read on Estate Planning, and it is by far and away the best. Covers wills, trusts, life insurance, lawyers, burial arrangements and health care. I liked the fact it directs you to other resources if more information is needed. Also presents many examples of what to do in different situations. Covers trusts in a more detailed manner than any of the other books I have read. This is the only book you really need if you are educating yourself on estate planning and trying to determine what needs to be done and how to do it.

Whether you are doing your own estate plan or consulting an attorney, this book will give you a clear picture of what's important to consider, how it all plays out, and what your options are. Very well written for lay persons.

Great book for reference while working with an estate planning attorney. Helps to ask the right questions and understand the finished documents.

Most books for the consumer fail when providing too much detail or, in the case of a product, so many technofeatures that only an engineer could appreciate them. This book strikes the balance between sufficient comprehensiveness to be a consumer's bible on estate planning without so much detail as to be overwhelming. And importantly, the author is truly as a consumer advocate--to minimize the need for you to use an attorney while recognizing at times, that is what is required. Certainly, reading this will make you a more informed consumer when you do consult an attorney, thereby reducing the number of those expensive hours you'll have to pay your friendly barrister.

Highly informative, well written, current, and at times even tongue-in-cheek humor. Good advice and explains concepts with stories about people's situations that may match your own. This adds great clarity. Thanks for a great book, and the text even has a back-up web site for up to date changes in the law. Highly recommended.

I originally took this book out at the library. It was so good and helpful, that I ponied up for my own copy. There is a lot to consider in estate planning. This book touches all the bases. I've been impressed with the Nolo books in general. The one on being an executor/trustee is also really good, but that one I can just get the latest version at the library when I need it. Estate planning, though, is a long-term process for which I wanted a reference to refer back to time and again. No wonder there have been several editions of this book; it's really good.

For almost 40 years I have used the books from Nolo (formerly known as Nolo Press in Berkeley). They provide do-it-yourself books for many legal issues at a low cost (I filed my divorce papers without an attorney using their book). This one is extremely well-written and covers the primary issues regarding legal and financial issues regarding estates. Obviously if you are prodded into establishing a living trust, will, whatever after reading this book it will be worth it. A solid 5 stars!

This story revolves around a family of four siblings - 3 girls and a boy. The boy was born late in the mother's life, and was a complete surprise. The girls are spaced a few years apart. Each chapter focuses on one family member, and a specific year. We come to learn their family dynamic over time. Miriam, the oldest, is the organized typical 'oldest child'. Clare, the middle girl, has always been different from the others, impetuous and combative, struggling with alcoholism in her adult life. Anna, the youngest girl is seen by the others as the 'princess', spoiled and the favorite. Then along comes Sebastian, and his relationship with his sisters is more as 'mothers' than 'siblings' because of the age difference. When Mom is on her deathbed, she calls Anna to her and tells her where her Will is. She tells Anna there is a letter with the will - and Anna is to find them and burn them both! So Mom dies and the family believes she left no Will. There are not jealousies or arguments among the kids over the estate, so Anna thinks all is fine. But, rather than burning the documents, she decides to read them. That's when she discovers her Mom's deep secret, and the possibility that Clare is the result of a brief affair. She tries to keep all this quiet, but secrets don't stay hidden. The rest of the book revolves around the sibling relationships, blow-ups and reconciliations. The plot had an interesting premise, but I didn't find the book compelling. In the end, I closed the book and thought, 'whatever...'

Very good and interesting read. Typical family dynamics, here seen from each person's perspective to meld into the story. Clare feels she's not really connected to her family in so many ways. I wouldn't have predicted the overall plot and subplots to this book in a million years. Perhaps that's why it was such an interesting story. My interest lagged some in the first third of the book but picked up and was hard to put down after a particular point (no spoilers here).

Wittgenstein is a difficult philosopher to read. I thought that a book with comics would turn his ideas easier to understand but I had some difficulty in understanding even the draws. The idea of the book is great but I thing the problem is the story to tell: about Wittgenstein. He is very complex, his ideas more complex. If you know nothing about his thoughts I think it is hard to understand the book. I'm not an expert on Wittgenstein but not a beginner and I really thought It was a difficult reading.

Seems to be all over the place. I couldn't get much from it, you're better off reading Wittgenstein himself if you can handle it, or a regular book about his writings

wonderfully helpful. I assigned this in a college class and made this dense sometimes cryptic reading much more accessible, especially to the novice.

As a fan of Wittgenstein I found this to be a fun read and enjoyed the combination of illustrations with his selected quotes per topic.

Vuong’s work is so amazing, I wrote my 10 page MFA paper on his unique use of poetry’s pleasure principles—structure, wild yet functional metaphors, variety of subject matter, various expressions of humanity (particularly human suffering and human love), wisdom and thought-provoking phrases, and vivid descriptions. BUY THIS BOOK! You WILL not regret it. I loved the kindle version so much, I want to buy it again in print so I can go around showing it to everyone. Vuong has raised the bar for good contemporary poets and I shudder to aspire to his creative genius. Seriously, buy this book.

I read Ocean Vuong’s poem in The New Yorker one morning, and it stopped my day. He writes in a deeply affecting way about his experiences — about sadness, beauty, family and war — and despite having little in common with him, his words make me feel like we have everything in common. The beauty of his poetry is its universality, despite being based on his very specific life experiences. I’ve read Night Sky with Exit Wounds, as well as anything else Vuong I can find. This is a book you’ll re-read all of the time. I was a lit major in school and have read endless amounts of poetry, but Ocean Vuong is my favorite poet.

Really a transcendent collection from a poet with incredible attention to form and language. I reach for this book often; for inspiration, for emotion, and just to feel the energy Vuong's words vibrate with.

I bought this book for a literature course. Let me begin by saying that, even though I'm a literature major, I'm not a huge fan of poetry. Ocean Vuong has such a beautiful way with words. His poetry drew me in from page one. He combines historical events (the Vietnam war, the assasination of JFK, even Jeffrey Dahmer's murders) with ideas of what it means to be gay in America. It is definitely worth a read.

Ocean Vuong's book of poetry is a fine work of a poet of note. The ease of which his writing appears is refreshing, a struggle and a peace of mind. The rest of the work is outstanding, the perspectives new and delicious. The multiple senses he "sees" the world is subtle and rewarding. Ocean Vuong is a poet to watch. Watch like a hawk. --ABH
