Recipes read like they would be good or interesting to try but this book is really lacking photos. I like pictures in recipe books. If it looks good or looks like my family would eat it without 20 questions, then I will give it a try.

Lots of great and unique recipes

This is the best cookbook for Crockpot recipes. Very simple and very tasty recipes!

My Crockpot is my most-used kitchen appliance and has been for many, many years. I have a million cookbooks for it, but this is definitely a standout! Loved the layout and great pictures! I was sent a copy of this book when my wish came true, via NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group and have decided to leave an honest review.I was very excited to receive a copy of this chock a block filled crock pot recipe book. I love my crock pot and any new recipes are always welcome. The Crock pot ladies have outdone themselves with some of the soup recipes especially the Creamy Chicken Pot Pie Soup which is truely wonderful. The Stupid Chicken recipe is marvellous and very tasty and the Homey Cinnamon Rice Pudding is to die for. The colours illustrations appear about every five recipes and the freezer instructions are an extra aid for the reader. I have a feeling I will be buying a copy of this wonderful book or asking my family to gift it to me. I highly recommend this book to all those lovers of crock pot cookery.

Really enjoyed this Crock-Pot cookbook! I really appreciated that they said which recipes are freezer-friendly. I am trying to make more freezer meals for my future self and to give out to others. I marked a lot of recipes I want to try, but so far these were hits with the family: Aloha Pineapple chicken, Super Simple Beef Tips, and Bubbly Italian Lasagna Dip. It also has a good "how to" in the beginning of the book for people that are newbies or those that need helpful tips/ reminders. I also liked the tip of using a cheese grater for onions. We hate chopped onions in our house, so I usually omit them. Might have to try that once!

There's a definite use of theme colors of light blue, red, and white, and thrifty, enticing, yet also down-to-earth, empathic, can-do wording, while not shying away from using frozen or premade/convenience ingredients. Rib-sticking recipes, including my favorites of everything-you-love-about-pizza dip, Asian kung pao meatballs, decadent lobster bisque (ideal, since I’ve recently become addicted to Cafe Zupa’s Lobster Bisque), traditional layered lasagna, maple smokehouse chicken (will for sure, posthaste need to make this one at home), pulled tandoori chicken, Salisbury steak meatballs, no-effort Korean beef, Cuban mojo pork, cheesy chili cornbread casserole, sweet caramel apple crisp, ginger carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, and chocolate mint cheesecake.

It allows you the opportunity to have a warm, tasty, wholesome meal awaiting the family every night. With this shared ethos, I really thought I was going to enjoy ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’… Sadly, I did not. :-(Warning – I will be providing a LOT of (hopefully) constructive criticism shortly. But I like to seek the positive and so will start with some nice things to say first.‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ is well set-out, easy to follow and has a thorough index at the back of the book. The recipes are aimed for larger families – serving 6 to 8 portions per recipe – which is how I feel true family cook books should be. I hate the ones who serve two to four and call themselves “family” cookbooks. Uh, no you’re not. So portion sizes and easy to read and follow recipes are positives.I also like how the recipes aren’t that “spoon feed” sort where half the book is made up of photos of the end products as if you need to check and see if your end result looks as good. ;-) Yes, I know the pictures are meant to entice a person into following the recipe, but I like a cook book that is more recipes and less glamour shots. So - another positive.Sadly, that is where they end for me. Please let me emphasise the following isn’t me saying ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ is a horrible book. It isn’t! The following is merely explaining why it isn’t a cook book for me. My tastes, dietary restrictions, and whole food preferences mean I am the wrong person for the book… not that the book is bad.Okay, here we go… Please forgive me Ms Kennedy, Ms Handing, and Ms Ince. Remember the mantra: “Pffffft, what would SHE know anyhow?!”Besides the basic layout and portion sizes, ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ really wasn’t for me. The tips at the beginning started out being overly generic, and better suited for a seasoned crock-pot/ slow-cooker user than any newbie user trying to use the book to learn how to get started… then the information became very basic and “spoon feed” in style, almost spelling out every nuance for the reader. I am wondering if there was more than one author for this part? A copy editor should have done a better continuity check for “user level”.Then… Cleaning with ammonia gave me chills… as did cooking with plastic. Really? Don’t have enough toxins in your life? Cook your meals with plastic bags or plastic liners just to add that little extra evil into your bodies. :-/And, BOY was there a lot of dairy fat in the recipes! Okay, so I am dairy free due to health issues… I am also unable to eat allium, wheat, barley, rye, seafood and so on…. If you’re like me and have a restricted diet, don’t want high fat meals, or are diabetic… this book is not for you. I like a cook book of recipes I can cook daily, or weekly. Most of the recipes in ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ were so rich and so high in unnecessary calories that I can’t see them as a daily family meal. Occasional meals maybe, with changes to meet our allergies and intolerances… but not an everyday cook book.I won’t even touch on the major use of pre-made foods as ingredients. No, I don’t mean things like frozen vegetables or pasta. I mean like cans of pre-made this sauce and bottles of pre-made that sauce. Maybe because I have to be careful of what ingredients my family eats I am less drawn to the pre-made… but I have always felt a decent slow-cooker meal is made with wholefood ingredients as the time it takes to slowly cook provides you with the flavours, rather than additive rich pre-mades doing it for you. Oh, and yeah, go the high fats and pre-mades but pretend it’s healthy as you’re using low-sodium soy sauce. Uh, okay?So, yes… ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ is not a cook book I would use, but that is because I follow a different way of cooking and eating. The book’s way of cooking just doesn’t match this reader.A final book nerd note on the formatting is that this book is obviously made for a North American audience (the publisher is North American so this was not a surprise) and although some measurements within ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ are in both metric and imperial, the majority of the measurements are imperial alone. In this day and age of online conversion tables and apps, it’s not a BIG issue, but one I always mention all the same.Would I recommend this book to others?I want to be polite and say yes, but I honestly don’t know anyone who would cook in this style either. My social circles are made up of people with similar food intolerances and allergies, as well as similar whole food, plastic free principles and so this is not a book they would like either. But I guess there are readers in North America who might find the very American (to me) style cooking to their tastes?Personally though, as much as I love the thought, time and obvious passion put into ‘The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners’ by Ms Kennedy, Ms Handing, and Ms Ince, this isn’t a cook book I would recommend.Would I buy this book for myself?I am pretty sure we all know the answer to this one, right? Sadly this isn’t my type of cook book. Again I want to emphasise that I am NOT saying it is a terrible book… I am merely saying I am not the right audience for it. For me, there are other crock-pot/ slow-cooker cook books better suited to my food choices and principles.In summary: A well laid-out, true family sized portions cook book, it just wasn’t my style of food.

This has been going on since around 1990 and, by now, reaches an incredibly large audience in the city, especially among students from the city’s four universities – obviously their main target. This is an alarming turn of events in my opinion. Politically, I am left of centre and I am profoundly disturbed by the degree to which the mainstream left here in Montreal has been so easily seduced by the extreme left. They very much need to read this book. Thank you so much to both authors for providing readers with such clarity on this new social environment.

It shows how even the victims themselves are harmed by promoting this hypersensitive / always looking for offense or harm environment. Of course it is primarily centered in nations campuses but it is spreading to the wider culture.This is an incredibiy rigorous and fair critic of this alarming trend and I definitely recommend it to everyone.

This book is solid but uninspiring. If you want to know the issues, the book is good. For some deep analysis of the issues, the book is quite weak. Why has the left in the US turned to identity politics and left-fascism? What is wrong with the strategy of shaming members of privileged groups and rejecting free speech and civil discourse? No answers here.I have nothing but systematic contempt for this new strategy on the Left. As a young member of the Left I fought against the Vietnam war, against racial and sexual discrimination, and for tolerance of diversity. We won LOTS of battles. The current authoritarian Left is completely intellectually bankrupt. There is not a single book or article that has any intellectual cogency. Just a bunch of dirty, racist bigots huddling together for warmth.What has brought this situation about? Frankly, I am still searching for answers.

This book did something in every chapter without fail--it made me stop reading, look up, and go, "So *thaaaat's* what that's called!" The authors have absolutely nailed what's going on in our culture and given a huge range of today's societal ills accurate, thoughtful, nuanced-but-still-clear-and-direct language. Reading this book, I understood why so many things that seem to start in a good place--a helpful, compassionate place--still give me a bit of a queasy feeling and fear of how it's all going to turn out. Our culture is changing in undeniable ways. Things that would have made our parents and grandparents blush with shame are now the first line of defense for today's young adults. Why? Ordinary struggles of life are now regarded as life-or-death traumas from which people old enough to vote, enlist, or marry require institutional protection. The authors are both college professors, but they write in exactly the way all college professors should--for a thoughtful audience that can handle their ideas but doesn't necessarily have their academic vocabulary. I highly recommend this book.

This book is written well, seemingly more for an academic audience, but is still a very thorough and in-depth review of much of the issue we face on college campuses. Should be read by all!

After reading this review, I felt compelled to read this book for myself, but it was not until I actually read it for myself did I truly understand, and appreciate, the depth and meaning of the message contained within it.I have read many books in my lifetime, but only a few have left me in tears because of the beauty and grace of the story being told, and the message within the story. This book, The Mount of Olives, is now on that list, and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. This book truly did bring tears to my eyes and move my heart. That is when you know you have experienced something great, and this book, in my humble opinion, is something great. It is a book that should be read by everyone, and is written in the spirit of other great books like The Greatest Miracle In the World, by Og Mandino and The Richest Man In Babylon, by George Clason. In the Greatest Miracle In The World, Simon Potter affectionately refers to certain books as "hand of God books," because they are books that he believed were touched by the hand of God. In my opinion, this is one of those books. You will not regret reading it!

I initially bought this book for my brother who is doing some time in prison. He really liked this book and said that he will be passing it around to other inmates. This is a solid effort that illustrates how to educate one's children in the ways of money. The author covers specific topics in each chapter and, within each chapter, breaks it down into age ranges. For example, in chapter 3--Hard Work Pays--she discusses how research has established that "hard work, achieving personal goals, and enjoying the satisfaction that comes with the effort" are the key to a happy life and that pampering kids and not making them do anything will be detrimental to their development. Later in the chapter, she has sections on preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, college and young adulthood. This enables the parent of a child of such-and-such an age to quickly find out how to talk to that child in an understandable way.Although the book is easy to read and understand and the author can be amusing at times, I found it best to read the book in stages. If you have children in middle school, you might be interested in--but not very enthused about--reading sections on preschool, high school, college, etc. You want the information, but not all in one big gulp.Kobliner covers everything from saving and having no debt to insurance and investing to saving/paying for college and volunteering at charities. Good book.

Good stuff to know about how to build credit so rather than tearing it down when you 19 and trying to rebuild when your 30 (line I did) LEARN EARLY

Get this book and learn how to teach your children healthy attitudes toward money. They're not too young. I flagged all the areas for my child's current age group and have started applying some of the suggestions. So far so good. I definitely recommend this book.
