Brilliant mind, and unengaging writing. Hard to plow through this classic of queer theory, but, I'm told, it's worth it.

Reading it seems dated now but it's such a classic, anyone interested in gender studies should have a copy of this book... even though it's almost impossible to read. The cover has a pleasing rubbery/matte finish too.

I did not give this book 5 stars because (1) often I found Butler not clearly expressing her own ideas and opinions as opposed to weaving too much into the accounts she gave of others and (2) her position is not clearly cognizant of its own premises. Specifically, Butler is taking to task the issue of the subject, subject-object dualism, and issues of power. However, her work presumes that only one theory of the subject is possible, that it requires subject-object dualism--which she rejects--and her theory of power is unclear and messy. She wants to get rid of the idea of a "SUBJECT" and leave room for agency, in the possibilities that exist between the different ways people are constructed through different knowledges. Yet, the way she gets rid of the subject entails that nothing exists to be free, to have agency. IMHO this analysis needs more subtlety here.It also needs to be clear about how the rejection of modern subjectivity goes hand in hand with the rejection of subject-object dualism. Do other forms of subjectivity--or more importantly agency--exist outside of subject-object dualism.In short she does not question the presumptions of the Nietzschean-Foucaltian genealogy. Thus, she leaves herself open to legitimate attacks.Is the book worth reading--YES! Butler's analysis raises great questions and challenges for traditional approaches to subjectivity. Yet, the limitations are very strong because they presume too much.

This is one of the most important texts that I have ever read. Life changer. Butler's writing is simultaneously complex, rigorous, and accessible.

This book is very dense and difficult to get through. However, if you stick with it, you'll be glad you did! Butler presents very compelling arguments about gender, sexuality, and gender construction/performance, that will definitely alter the way you think about gender.

Good book

Butler is of course incredibly thoughtful and intelligent, and an important read for anyone interested in gender theory/performativity/feminist studies. However, this particular edition had an annoying number of typos; I'm not sure if it was proofread.

Great ideas but very hard to follow. The writing style is one that I don't care for.

Volume 2 of Kiss Him, Not me picks up where the story left off. Kae has just gotten back to school after the summer anime conventions, and four boys in school still want her. Of course, Kae is still a massive perv and would rather fantasize about the boys with each other.This volume is dominated by anime. At the school festival, Kae gets everyone on board with a Cosplay cafe, and she ends up making the guys a bunch of costumes. References to other works abound, and serve to lighten the mood. But this also leads to the best character choice so far in the story: the boys deciding they don't want to date Kae together and splitting up. There is only so far this could go without Kae turning into a ridiculous Mary Sue, so I'm glad that plot line is easing up. This and the introduction of a new character, leave me hopeful for the third volume.However, there is one annoying flub, the timeline. This volume started at the summer festival and ended at Christmas, which is a ridiculous time skip. I really hope they never pull a stunt like that again.

Fangirl Kae has four admirers, and here, they go on a series of dates in expected manga situations. First, there’s the school festival, and due to the cosplay theme, Kae gets to make outfits for several of the guys (including one who’s playing princess). They get upset at spending all their time with her in a group, though, so they draw up an individual dating schedule.That, and the way they all work together in preparation for the event, gave me more insight into how to distinguish the guys, which was a big help, compared to the first book. Shinomiya is the young blond, aching to be seen as more mature, a real man. Igarashi is the caring, thoughtful nice guy who also wants to tell the truth. Nanashima is the pushy, flirty other blond. Mutsumi is the older, sensible one, a comforting presence.Kiss Him, Not Me! is a light, breezy read that doesn’t make fun of its lead for her fannish interests. She doesn’t want to make a choice yet, enjoying finding out more about what she wants. Her nervousness in dealing with attractive men is both amusing and sympathetic, making for a dating manga I enjoy. Plus, whenever she gets the courage to say what she really wants, everyone says, “ok, sounds good”, a nice bit of validation. It was such a good read. The mix of comedy and high school romace. Would definitely reccomend to others

i loved this one as much as the first one. all the characters kept the story going so smoothly and i liked when she was up front with the guys about her feelings... and the ending!!!! could this mean possible yuri? as a yaoi fan to the end im not into yuri but the twist of a gender bender character gives a surprise twist for me.

My daughter loves this series. I have not read it so I can only go by what she says.

I bought three different manuals for the Samson Galaxy S6 that I recently purchased. This books was, by far, the best. Very easy, step-by-step insturctions, with lots of photos. Just what I needed.

I wish I'd bought this book when I bought my first smart phone 2 years ago. I plan to keep my Samsung Galaxy S6 phone for a while longer yet so I went ahead and ordered this book. There is so much I was missing in using my phone. This book is especially helpful for seniors who might have eyesight issues but don't let that stop you if you just need a good, comprehensive how-to instruction book on how to make the best use of that super smart phone. I highly recommend this book!

I'm almost 66 and just now buying a smart phone. However, I do have a background in IT so I am not computer illiterate. This book is just what I needed. I am slowing working my way through the chapters and after 3 days I am feeling pretty comfortable with my phone. The only thing I don't like about this book is that it is super heavy. It is printed with heavy, glossy paper and it is large. It isn't something I can throw into my purse and carry around with me, in case I get stuck trying to do something.

Although I'm a senior, I'm more tech savvy than most as I've been in the tech business my entire career. I chose the senior version of "My Samsung Galaxy S6" over it's similar title for a few reasons. I liked the physical size of the book better, as well as the fonts and image size for comfortable reading. The material was very well laid out and easily followed. You could jump anywhere into the book to read about a feature without having to base it on earlier information. The only downside to the reasons I like the book is that this format limits the amount of advanced or lesser known features of the phone. For most seniors, however, this wouldn't matter as the book contains probably far more than they typically would ever need to know. So, Yes! I would highly recommend this book and not just for seniors.

Great book for the uninitiated technology deficit folks. Explains most all features in good detail. Wish there were better explanations of camera modes, what each one does and when to use them. Otherwise fine for thee price..

I am learning more about my phone than the small amount of information that comes with the purchase.

I was disappointed. You will learn that George Fox of England was the founder and details of his early life which are not very interesting. You will read how he came to Pennsylvania and set up a Quaker group with a group of followers who after he left turned into a bunch of degenerates. However you will not learn how Quakers practice their religion or even if it is a religion. Nor will you learn how one may become a Quaker unless you read the extensive bibliography. You will learn much more about the Quakers if you simply GOOGLE "Quakers"

The Quakers have/had more of a history in England than I realized until I read this book. It does discuss the Quakers' history in Pennsylvania, but their story and this book is more comprehensive than I was expecting.

This is a great, quick introduction for someone who does not know much about Quakerism. Since I am such a person, I am not comparing it to broader scholarship. It simply is a great and free (on Kindle) introduction to a historically important religious group.

I learned a lot about the Quakers, the beginning history was very interesting, only wish for more information about American Quakers, but still very informative.

This is a good read, but it leaves you wanting to know more. Use this book as an introduction to the Quaker philosophy, then go looking for more in depth study.

I liked the book mostly because it opened my eyes. Fascinating topic, very enlightening and left me eager for more information..

I enjoyed reading this book. Learned some things I was unaware of with the Quakers.

Good book and informative. Enjoyable and as described.

This book is by far my number one reference book for intitial interpretation of EI data. If you are looking for a book that will help you with chromatography conditions and subsequent interpretation of EI data based on the various classes of compounds, then get this book. I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a book that delves into instrument theory and trouble shooting, then you will be very disappointed. As the title says this is a "practical guide".

This book did not offer what I was looking for. Mostly, it is a mass spectra interpretation guide but not a practical guide on Gas Chromatography or Mass Spectrometry. Persons wanting to buy this book need to know that there are no references to the troubleshooting of the instrumet. This book is just a reference for interpretation of mass spectra not for analytical work.
