I will caveat this with the fact that I haven't read the book cover-to-cover, but from what I have read so far and the recipes I've tried, I really like this book! The tips and advice in the first portion of the book are great and I learned some new things that I've already started incorporating into my kitchen routine. I think what I find most appealing about this book is that it encourages us to think outside the box with our cooking and use of resources, while also providing easy recipes to get you started down this path. The tone of the writing is conversational and easy to read and approach.The first recipe I tried was the lemony broccoli stem and chickpea toast, which I enjoyed. I swapped out traditional broccoli stems with broccoli rabe stems and it was delicious - I recommend it!
This book has taught me so much about how to use food I used to throw out. Some of the recipes are even going into my "permanent collection"--pumpkin gut scones, banana peel cake, and cauliflower core dip. The illustrations are gorgeous to boot. Love it!
I've now officially tried a handful of recipes from this book and can seriously say they are amazing...how does someone make something from the stuff I'd normally toss? It's so nice to have a cookbook that inspires me to do better and to think outside the box.
The ideas in the book are interesting but the recipes are not that great but they are. But what do you expect for scraps ! The recipes will need some tweaking to your own taste but it's an interesting read.
I absolutely adore this cookbook. It is perfect for me and I will definitely be purchasing more as gifts for people. You just can’t beat the price!! Such a fun idea for a cookbook.
This was a gift and the recipient said she loved it. Gave her many new ideas and will be helpful to her sister who is allergic to many common items so the substations of scraps for those items will be a godsend.
I've been cooking for years and I love that this book makes me think outside the box. I find myself now creating dishes around my scraps instead of using them to fill my garbage bin. Lindsey-Jean is witty and has a very laid back approach to cooking. I see my produce aisle in a whole new light and my kids are excited to try new dishes made out of watermelon rinds and banana peels. Such a fun and creative book!
I'm so pleased with this purchase! I never realized how much food I was wasting.
