I'm glad I ignored some negative reviews, because I enjoyed this story. It was filled with interesting characters and villains. Some found the h irritating, but I thought her personality was believable, since there are many people who don't crave being around others. She was shallow in some areas, but basically a decent person with relatives that didn't play nice. Her sister made a good antagonist, as did another character, who played a big part in her evolving. I took a star off because of some crude talk near the end and an ugly scene that showcased modern dating/culture. But I like the little 'world' the author created with the neighbors and how the h 'got smart' at the end.

This was very juvenile writing. I read the whole thing, but I wish I could have that time back. The main character was small minded and not very bright. The other characters were not fleshed out and the writing was somewhat disjointed.I feel kind of bad about this review, since I've certainly never written a novel myself, but I am an avid reader who depends upon reviews, so here's a heads up, fellow bookworms.

This story is well written, the characters are very believable, and in fact, sounds a lot like some of the young people that I have had the pleasure of getting to know and on occasion, hang out with. I loved the fact of our two main friends for life came out on top, winning the other's affection, respect and the reality of their love for each other.

This book was very interesting, I wanted to like the whole thing but pieces of it nag at me. The main character is terrible, I don't know if we are suppose to dislike her or what the author was going for? She whines the whole book and is too self involved to see all the nice people around her trying to look out for her. Her sister is terrible as well and adds nothing to the book but the ending. The supporting characters (Lola's neighbors) are terrific! And how she could over look her "best friends" and their awesomeness is beyond me. She has amazingly witty and giving people all around her and yet she sulks the whole book. All is not lost on this book though, it is charming and laid back. There are quite a few chucks to be had and it is a light, very light romance book. Although in my opinion the man of Lola's dreams had absolutely no chemistry with her and I'm not sure what happened to make her think their romance would work. But if you are looking for a cute, quirky book go ahead and try it out!

The main character, Lola thinks she's easily amused, but she's really a complex person. She's about to turn 30, doesn't have a boyfriend or current prospects, and her little sister is about to get married. The wedding is on her birthday--her thirtieth birthday. Her sister will have something planned to make sure everyone there will know this. There are a few good things in her life, though. She recently inherited a house from her great aunt. She has an enjoyable job as a writer/editor of a parenting magazine. She has two close friends, Hubert and Piper, that she's known since childhood. Piper sets her up with a really handsome guy to take as date, and maybe as a faux fiance. Hubert moves in to Lola's house after his girlfriend kicks him out. Her new neighbors are really, really nosey. So much for that alone time she was beginning to enjoy. Life has become very complicated.

This is a nice romance, but it starts out slow. Additionally, Lola is down on herself so much and just takes stuff from everyone. She and her sister are always in a conflict. A good looking man agrees to pretend to be her date at her sister's wedding, the wedding where her sister was going to embarrass her. Lola's best friend, Hubert, moves in with her and has always had feeling for her. None of her neighbors like Ryan, the good looking guy she is pretending to date, so she needs to decide what she wants. The romance ends well, but it's a long trip.

Lola is a doormat, her sister is cruel and obnoxious as is her sister's friend. I don't know if Amazon will publish my review if I saw what I really think. It's like watching a reality show you can't get away from. I couldn't get through the book, I had to stop listening because I wanted to break my phone.

Let it be known that my first impression of Lola, the heroine in this engaging humorous romantic novel was not positive. I found her sarcasm and negative reaction toward any person who dared to enter her space offsetting. Karen McQuestion ingeniously helps the reader understand the many facets of this character. You laugh with her. You cry with her. You get angry with her and you get angry at her. In other words you feel this character as only a very good writer compels you to do!
